Job Description

Road Maintenance Technician Valley County is looking for a Road Maintenance Technician to perform maintenance and construction work on county roads, bridges, and rights-of-way. This is a full-time position with full employee benefits. The Road Maintenance Technician operates light and heavy equipment and machinery to perform maintenance and construction work on county roads, bridges, and rights-of-way. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Road Department Supervisor, with some latitude for independent judgment and initiative. Examples of the work done by Road Maintenance Technicians include, but are not limited to, the following: Operating heavy construction equipment for the maintenance and construction of roads and bridges; Plowing snow; Grading roads, smoothing potholes and washboards, and maintaining slope for proper drainage; Hauling material to road construction and maintenance sites; Patching and filling potholes and repairing cracks in asphalt; Inspecting roads, bridges, and rights-of-way, documenting issues and areas of concerns, and reporting results; Operating a variety of hand and power tools to clear debris, obstacles, and visual blockages; Repairing roadway signs, fences, guard rails and other structures; Checking culverts, storm drains, and road shoulders for blockages and water build-up, and clearing debris as necessary; Removing debris and other safety hazards from roads, culverts, storm drains, and adjacent public areas; Cutting and trimming trees, branches, shrubbery, and weeds; Opening and closing seasonal roads; Working in remote areas requiring overnight stays; Placing work zone traffic control devices and performing flagging duties; Performing routine and preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment and maintains records; Responding to questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner; Performing all work duties and activities in accordance with county and OSHA safety policies and procedures; Performing other related duties as assigned.
