Nature of Work
This is responsible work of a specialized nature carrying out varied high-level professional assignments supporting the development, planning, and coordination of public art projects within the City of Miamis Art in Public Places Program. The Public Art Curator coordinates projects from concept to completion, collaborating with artists, developers, City departments, and community stakeholders. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: producing and developing creative ideas and/or projects for the enhancement of the department, office and/or city; assisting in developing project timelines, budgets, and resources for public art initiatives; promoting the Art in Public Places Program's projects; coordinating educational programs, artist workshops, and outreach events; assisting in planning, maintaining and evaluating management procedures and identifying areas of improvement; monitoring the acquisition, documentation, storage, and installation of artwork; conducting provenance research, preparing visual presentations and internal reports, presenting ideas and making recommendations to the department director and/or other City officials; meeting with various organizations in the private and/or public area to coordinate joint partnership for the enhancement of the department, Art in Public Places Program, office and or city; supervising professional, administrative, and clerical staff assisting in various phases of activities;and serving as a liaison between outside agencies, City officials, artists, galleries, developers, and cultural institutions . The incumbent in this position is expected to function in an independent manner, carrying out a wide range of activities, coordinating them from their initial stages through final closure. May attend public hearings and City meetings representing the Art in Public Places Program, as required. This is a Part-Time position in the Planning Department reporting to the department director or his/her designee. Minimum Requirements Bachelors degree in Art, Art History, City, Regional, or Urban Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, Architecture History, Historic Preservation or a closely related field and two (2) years of experience in studio art, visual art, public art, or other art related projects. Nonprofit, private, or public sector planning or land development experience is desirable. OR Equivalent combination of educationand experience beyond a high school diploma or its equivalent and six (6) monthsof the required experience.
