MetService has a vital role in engaging with people and businesses, at home and overseas, and this role will continue to evolve.
MetService people are inspired by the future importance of our role in contributing to the weather resilience of Aotearoa, New Zealand and in partnership with our Pacific neighbours, contribute to their important work. We need to work in an agile way using wide and deep expertise to make a positive impact for our stakeholders, Aotearoa and the planet.
This is a new leadership role that is responsible for shaping and growing MetService international development activities and successful delivery of benefits and impacts.
MetService have been supporting the Pacific region for many years, but we now have an opportunity to amplify our work and play a key role in the global endeavour to prepare for and manage weather impacts in the context of climate change.
The National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) of the Pacific have identified critical gaps in their services and early warning systems which need to be addressed to ensure they are weather prepared. These gaps include governance arrangements, observation networks, computer and communication equipment, forecasting systems that are variable in approach and quality, and the number of qualified meteorological and technical staff to develop and deliver accurate, localised and impact-based forecasts and warnings.
In this role you will build relationships with Pacific NMHSs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT), NZ Science organisations, and other funders and international organisations to develop and deliver a portfolio of projects that help to deliver against the priorities identified by the Pacific NMHS, and the challenges increasingly severe weather continues to bring.
